Clients - FEDEC
When we think of circus arts, familiar images of clowns, lions, and trapeze artists often come to mind. But can we break away from these clichés to communicate the full range of disciplines that define contemporary circus? This was the question posed by FEDEC, the international network for professional circus arts training, when they commissioned a brochure to convey their mission, vision, and values. The material needed to inform the public about FEDEC’s three main areas—publishing, event programming, and European-level project engagement—while also avoiding conventional “corporate” visuals.
To shift away from outdated imagery, we proposed a brochure/poster embracing a fresh visual language. One side of the poster featured 14 playful, modern illustrations designed to captivate diverse audiences, with a minimalist aesthetic that resonates across generations. A dynamic layout brought the Federation’s baseline text in French and Dutch and the members’ names to life, echoing circus arts’ vibrancy and playful energy.
Following the success of this initial print piece, FEDEC invited Piknik to fully revamp their visual identity. We crafted a cohesive graphic system based on the original illustrations, dynamic typography, and modernized FEDEC’s logo. By simplifying the logotype and emphasizing the “C” for Circus, we created a visual identity that boldly highlights FEDEC’s core mission.

Following this successful piece, FEDEC requested a full visual rebranding. We modernized their logo and crafted a graphic system, with a focus on the “C” for Circus to emphasize their identity.
