Clients- Passa Porta — The international house of literature
In 2018 Passa Porta—Brussels’ renowned bookshop and international house for literature—launched Vers Brussel, a project playfully bringing together visual arts and poetry in the European capital. Ten poets from all over the globe were invited to wax lyrical about the city’s ups, downs, ins, and outs, and ten Belgian artists replied in turn with artworks in a vast array of media.
In synergy with the artistic installations created and placed on the city’s streets, Piknik was tasked with developing graphic content that showcased the poems imagined by each writer and facilitated access to the artworks in the public space.
To this end, we designed an easily readable, accessible fold-out map (in Dutch, French, and English), crafted illustrations in-house representing each artistic proposal, and typeset artist bios as well as the original poems in their mother tongues. In addition, we conceived signage that was not only eye-catching and engaging to passersby but also employed sustainable, eco-friendly, and weather-resistant materials.
Rooted at the intersection of language and contemporary creation, Vers Brussel saw art installed in the most unexpected places and acted as a gateway for locals and tourists alike to (re)discover Brussels in all its splendor and diversity.
